When a song is playing on your iPhone, you can view its artist and name from either the Lock screen or from Control Center when you’re not in the Music app. NowPlayingSB is a new jailbreak tweak that makes it more easier to find out information of the currently playing song.
The tweak allows you to take a glance at the song information from the Status bar. This information includes the artist and the name of the song and appears in place of the clock that is positioned in the center of the Status bar. If there’s a song playing, the tweak will gradually switch between the clock, song and and the artist name in the Status Bar.
With NowPlayingSB, you no longer have to open the stock Music app, Lock screen or Control Center to view what music is playing in the background as all of these information will be readily available in the Status Bar at all times until the music is paused or stopped playing.
The tweak seems to work with the stock Music app only and not any other third-party app. I tested it by playing a song on Shazaam but it failed to show the music details in the Status Bar.
NowPlayingSB doesn’t come with any additional preferences pane so once you’ve install it, you’re good to go. As soon as a song starts playing on your iPhone, you should be able to see what it is via the Status Bar.
NowPlayingSB is a great tweak for quickly taking a glance of what music is playing in the background. I often find myself opening Control Center to view this information but with this new tweak, the essential information is readily available in the Status Bar. The major feature that the tweak lacks is support for third-party apps as right now, it only seems to work with the stock Music app.
If you’re in to give this tweak a try, you can get it for free via Cydia’s BigBoss repo. Leave your opinion about the tweak in the comments section below.
