If you are looking for ways to simplify your native iOS app switcher, then you have to give Phenomenon a try. This new tweak was released yesterday that acts as an alternative to native app switcher. It is very simple and doesn’t require a lot of configuration.
How “Phenomenon” it is?
As usual once Phenomenon is downloaded and installed, a preference pane is added to your Settings menu. From here you can enable or disable the tweak’s feature at your demand as well as choose the activator gesture to invoke the app switcher. If you are using iPhone 6S or iPhone 6S plus, the tweak can be invoked by force tapping on the left side of the screen (3D touch). If you are using other iPhone models, for instance iPhone 5S, then you have to choose an activator gesture to invoke the tweak.
Now once you invoke Phenomenon either through activator gesture or force tapping, the app switcher appears as a vertical pane on the left side of the screen. All your open apps are displayed along with a preview of each apps. You can scroll up or down to view all your open apps. To close any one of the apps, you have to simply swipe left on the app’s preview. On the other hand if you want to close all the apps instantly, tap and hold on any app preview and this will automatically close all the apps.
Additionally, the tweak allows you to select the size of Control Center. You can either opt for having a small or full size CC. I generally recommend that you disable this feature and have the tweak use the full size for CC since the small size will compact the CC and thus making it less attractive. The tweak also gives you the option to vibrate when invoking the tweak using 3D touch (force tap) on the left side of the screen. This will give you a sense of whether the tweak has been activated or not.
The advantage of this tweak is it is accessible from anywhere on your iOS device. Wether you are on Music App, composing an email, taking notes or playing games; this tweak can be invoked by simply performing the activator gesture.
Phenomenon is a great tweak and delivers what is promised. It is very simple, easy to use and in fact a great alternative to native App Switcher. Providing a faster access to the Control Center in the App Switcher is what makes this tweak stand out. The developer has also mentioned that in future update, they are planning to add additional features such as restart device from app switcher itself and adding new animation when an app is opened from the app switcher.
If you want to give Phenomenon a try, head over to Cydia’s BigBoss repo and download it for $2.99. It works on iPhone and iPad running on iOS 8 and 9. Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
