ios 10 - ios 10.1.1 jailbreak

Here’s how you can remove the iOS 10 – iOS 10.2 Yalu jailbreak using iCloud without restoring to the latest firmware.

The Yalu jailbreak for iOS 10 – iOS 10.2 is currently in the beta stages and contains a number of issues that could create problems on your device and in extreme cases, force it into a continuos bootloop.

Update: added a safer method using OSRestoreX

If you have already jailbroken your iOS 10 device, then it is best that you only install the compatible tweaks to avoid any issues. We previously posted a list of the compatible iOS 10.1 – iOS 10.2 tweaks which you can find here.

If the Yalu jailbreak is creating issues on your device, then the good news is that you can erase your device via iCloud to safely remove the iOS 10 jailbreak and avoid restoring to the latest firmware. Many Reddit users have reported that this method works successfully.

Note: the following guide will erase all the data on your jailbreak device, so make sure that you take a complete backup using iTunes or iCloud.

How to Remove iOS 10 Yalu Jailbreak Without Restoring

Method 1: Using OSRestoreX

OSRestoreX is a Cydia package that deletes the iOS 10 jailbreak and erases your device without updating the iOS firmware. To find out how to use it, read the following article:

Method 2: Using iCloud.com

Step 1: The first step is to remove as many tweaks as possible from Cydia. Make sure that you don’t remove the default/system packages such as Cydia Installer, APT, etc. Only remove those packages that were installed by you otherwise it can cause issues.

Step 2: Restart your iOS device to disable the jailbreak.

Step 3: Ensure that you have Find My iPhone enabled on your device and WiFi or 3G is turned on. If not, go to Settings -> iCloud -> Find My iPhone and turn it on.

Step 4: Go to iCloud.com and sign into your account.

Step 5: Click on Find iPhone.

iCloud will remotely send a command to your iPhone to reset its content and erase all the data including the jailbreak. The device will still remain on its current firmware without restoring to the latest iOS version.

Icloud did erase my iphone but when I restored it, cydia was still on the springboard, any other method to safely erase cydia without updating?

    • Ali

This is the only method of erasing without restore. Try resetting via iCloud again.

what harm will it do if cydia app just remained there, the jailbreak didn’t even work for me, but will it cause any trouble to leave the app just hanging there in a non-working state in an isolated folder or something 😀 ??

        • Ali

There is no harm. But make sure to hide Cydia if you take your phone to the Apple Store for repair or something else.

      ios ?

  • Anthony Suarez

Will have to try this, I already tried to delete from settings but Cydia lingered around. Maybe iCloud restore will work, when I updated my iPhone to 10.2 I never fully restored first so my old jailbreak must’ve lingered and now the new jb doesn’t work. And while doing that apple closed the 10.2 window. So hope this works

    • Ali

Yea, iOS 10.2 signing window is closed already. Let me know if this method works fine in your case.

    • Dontae Baron

What if I want to update to the newest firmware. I took off the jailbreak completely and when I keep trying to update. it says “software update failed” “an error occurred downloading iOS 11” What do I do ????

  • Rizoniel

doesn’t work. will cydia and my one tweak app fuck it up? I have cydia and bytafont 3 left on my homescreen.

    • Ali

The icons are there probably because you restored from the jailbreak backup.

      • Rizoniel

I restored it back to one week before I jailbreaked

  • Isaac Johnson

Do I then click Restore from iCloud backup or from iTues backup?

    • Ali

      Both will work.

  • NMK

  • Rose Mendoza

how do i get rid of cydia? I did this but i can’t remove cydia! how do i do that?

  • TwentySeven Gamers

cydia and my tweak apps dident go away what can i do to get rid of it???

  • Kani

I wanna keep the jailbreak but i noticed that my icloud and passcode stuff doesn’t work on my iphone 6s Ios 10.2 although i removed both before I jailbreaked it, what can I do?

  • Zafir Parmar

This doesn’t work. It was a huge pain having to restore everything only to see Cydia and the tools still present. If you don’t want to lose your Apple wallet, and touch ID along with other personal data which must be re-added, just update to iOS 10.3. Who wants to re-jailbreak every week anyways.

  • Dan Morency

I lost all my contacts this way is there a way to get them back?

    • Bryan Le

No way unless you have manually saved them to the iCloud or iTunes.

      • Dan Morency

I figured out if you type in a letter all the contacts that have that letter will come up and you just have to hit the “i” button and add them to your contacts again, kind of tedious but at least they aren’t lost

  • Saajan Maharjan

  • Naveed

I already did the same method and the device is unjailbroken but cydia and its apps are still in phone but not functional.
