Apple’s new AirPods look pretty cool compared to the traditional wired earphones, but there’s also a higher risk that at least one of the pairs could be lost due to the lack of cords.
To ease your pain, Apple will replace your lost AirPod for a fee of $65, which kind of makes sense as a new pair of AirPods would cost you $159. Third-party accessories have already started to go on sale to help you hold onto your AirPods so that you don’t lose them, but a new iOS app that debuted on the App Store recently promises to help you find your lost AirPod.
Finder for AirPods is the first app of its kind that is designed for the new AirPods. Using this app, you no longer have to search your entire house just to find your AirPods lying under the bed.
It helps you find the location of your paired AirPods using their wireless signature. When you open the app, you’ll be presented with a sleek and intuitive interface asking you to choose the AirPod that is missing. It can also search for both AirPods at the same time.
Once you make a choice, the app starts to search for it and displays a curved line on the screen that will fill up as you get closer to the lost AirPod. As you start to move around, the app will tell you how close you are to it.
Although this app sounds really useful, it has a couple of drawbacks. The app can only identify the location of your lost AirPod if it is still turned on (e.g the battery isn’t dead) and secondly, if it is in close proximity. If you drop an AirPod on the road and reach home just to realize you’ve lost it, then the app will not be able to identify its location. It has to be in close proximity to your device.
If you lose your AirPods in your home, at work, or somewhere that you frequently visit, then this app will be really useful to find your lost AirPods.
Finder for AirPods is available for $3.99 in the App Store. It is a very reasonable price to pay to find your lost AirPods that cost you $159.
