Here’s a step-by-step guide to jailbreak iOS 10.1 – iOS 10.1.1 on iPhone or iPad using Yalu and Cydia Impactor.
Well-known hacker Luca Todesco finally released the Yalu jailbreak for iOS 10.1 – iOS 10.1.1, which supports a fairly limited set of devices such as the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s and iPad Pro.
The jailbreak which is currently in beta and a work-in-progress has several issues that might create problems on your device. I recommend that you stay put and wait until a more stable version of the jailbreak is released. However, if you can’t wait and are willing to take the risk, then the following guide will help you how to jailbreak iOS 10.1 – iOS 10.1.1 on iPhone or iPad using Yalu.
Before you proceed, make sure to read the important points below:
- The current version of Yalu jailbreak supports the following devices:
- iPhone 7 & iPhone 7 Plus
- iPhone 6s
- iPad Pro
- The jailbreak works only on iOS 10.1 – iOS 10.1.1. This means that other versions of iOS 10 aren’t supported, such as iOS 10.2.
- Make sure that you take a complete backup of your iOS device using iTunes or iCloud. In case something goes wrong during the jailbreak process, you can restore your device using the backup.
- Ensure that your device has enough battery for the jailbreak process to complete without any interruptions.
How to Jailbreak iOS 10.1 – iOS 10.1.1 Using Yalu and Cydia Impactor
Step 1: Download Cydia Impactor for Windows or Mac from here.
Step 2: Download the latest version of Yalu jailbreak from here. Currently, beta 4 is broken so download the beta 3 IPA file.
Step 3: Connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer using USB and launch Cydia Impactor.
Step 4: Drag and drop the Yalu IPA file onto Cydia Impactor.
Step 5: Cydia Impactor will ask for your Apple ID and password, which is sent to Apple only and is used to generate certificates to sign the IPA file. Enter these information and proceed with the next step.
Step 6: Cydia Impactor will now begin to install the Yalu jailbreak app onto your device.
Step 7: Once the installation is done, you should see a new app on the Home screen labelled “mach_portal”. To launch this app, you must first verify its profile.
Step 8: Go to Settings -> General -> Profiles (for some, this may be labelled “Device Management” or “Profiles & Device Management”).
Step 9: Open the profile labelled with your Apple ID and then tap on the Trust button. If a prompt appears for confirmation, again tap on Trust.
Step 10: Now go back to the Home screen and launch the mach_portal app.
Step 11: The jailbreak process will now begin and a white screen will be displayed for approximately 15-25 seconds. Do not do anything until the jailbreak completes.
Step 12: After the jailbreak is completed, your device will reboot automatically and Cydia will appear on the Home screen.
If you see the Cydia icon, then it means that your iPhone or iPad has been successfully jailbroken with the Yalu jailbreak. Otherwise, retry the steps above.
Cydia will take some time to perform the initial configuration when you launch it for the first time. After it’s done, you can proceed with installing your favorite tweaks.
Now that you’re jailbroken, make sure to install only those jailbreak tweaks that are compatible with iOS 10.1 – iOS 10.1.1. You can find the list of compatible jailbreak tweaks over here.
