In this tutorial, we will show you how to extract and open RAR files on Mac.
A RAR file is a single package that contains one or more compressed files within it. Unlike ZIP, RAR files cannot be extracted and opened on a Mac. ZIP files can be extracted by simply double clicking on them, but when you attempt to open a RAR file in the same way, it doesn’t work.
Apple supports a number of archive file formats such as ZIP, TAR, and Gzip but RAR isn’t supported. Fortunately, there are apps in the Mac App Store that allow you to extract RAR files and view their content. One such app is the UnRAR Archiver which is available for free in the Mac App Store.
In this guide, we will show you how to download UnRAR Archiver and use it to extract and open RAR files on Mac.
